Curriculum:
We offer Montessori curriculum for preschool and kindergarten age children and cover the five different areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Cultural.
Practical Life is the most important area which prepares the child for every other area of the classroom. Exercises of practical life are very critical to the development of concentration, co-ordination, independence, and sense of order in the child. The materials used in this area relate to the care of self, and care of the environment (indoor and outdoor). These exercises teach the child patience, self-control and respect for others and things around him.
Sensorial materials provide the first introduction to the refinement of all senses, discrimination of size, height, width, and breadth dimensions, as well as geometric shapes and solids. These materials are designed to auto educate the child. The uniquely designed materials with built-in control of error help the child complete the task without adult intervention.
Language is an integral part of the Montessori classroom and the child gets exposure to
it through encouragement of self- expression, lessons and freedom of conversation. The
language materials in the Montessori classroom facilitate the learning of language through
phonetics which is truly the child’s most remarkable intellectual achievement. “Silence game”,” I spy”, story time, sing along, picture matching and many other pre-reading activities prepare the child for more challenging language activities like word building, sentence building, reading and creative writing.
Mathematics: The three components of number are name, written symbol and quantity.
Through the Montessori materials the child is initially introduced to all these three components and then moves on to other complicated mathematical exercises. The manipulative materials in this area help the child to grasp the concepts of numeration, the four arithmetical operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and introduction to the decimal system and the different hierarchies of numbers in a concrete and hands-on way.
Cultural area includes Science, Geography and History. This area gives an overview of the animal & plant kingdom, the globe, land-water forms, continent maps, flags, and passage of time. Science experiments fascinate the children and are a big part of our curriculum.
